Using the standard H-4 handle electrode that attaches to the built-in connector on the top of any moisture meter, it can be used with a variety of prods including the 831 short pin disc shaped prod, and various length 830 series prods,
Using the H-4 and 831 short pin disc prod combination, the operator can test hay in the windrow by bunching the windrow together tightly and pushing the prod into the pile. Usually numerous tests are required to obtain a quality reading. After taking the first reading, the operator should mix the hay, repack it and test again several times, then average the readings.

Using the H-4 and either one of the different length 830 prods (10” or 18”) combination makes testing hay in the finished bale easy. The internal density and stem-to-leaf ratio are generally inconsistent throughout the bale. Because of this, it’s necessary to test a bale in several locations and average the readings — taking specific note of the high readings. We also recommend testing the bales in different locations as field conditions could affect the moisture levels.

Using the FX-2000 meter and the bale chamber kit, on the go bale chamber monitoring is possible without leaving the tractor cab. The microcomputer in the FX-2000 meter collects and processes 8 separate readings that update every 4 seconds. The meter then displays the average and highest reading giving the operator real time reading of the bale being produced.
